Cette fraction liquide résiduelle est engendrée par l'action conjuguée de l'eau de pluie et de la fermentation naturelle sur le stockage des déchets. Riche en matière organique et en éléments traces, le lixiviat ne peut être rejeté directement dans le milieu naturel et doit être soigneusement collecté et traité.
