Water Footprint

Updated on 13/07/2018
Sens commun
Volume of water used at all stages of the production chain of a product (installation, goods or service). The water footprint is also its "virtual water content". For example, to produce a cup of coffee you require a total of 140 litres of water; for one pound of beef you need 16 m³ (16,000 litres). In the end, the water footprint is the total volume of water (expressed in litres or m3) directly and indirectly used in an activity and those that are related, including the water used in the supply chain.
